Sheridan celebrates the “premier event in all of western equine sports,” introduced to audiences via THE LAST COWBOY.

Las Vegas, NV, May 29, 2025 – The Run For A Million (TRFAM), Taylor Sheridan’s highly anticipated annual reining, cow horse and cutting horse event, announced today key details for this year’s edition, which runs August 11-16 at Las Vegas’s South Point Arena and Equestrian Center.

Acclaimed band Flatland Cavalry is set to perform following the sold-out flagship Million Dollar Competition on August 16. Other musical acts performing at the event include singer-songwriters Danno Simpson, Ward DavisKarley Scott Collins and Waylon Wyatt, with Simpson and Davis performing on the 15th and Collins and Wyatt on the 14th and 13th, respectively.

New to this year’s edition is the Race To The Slide–Presented by ThorSport, a new slide competition which will serve as the opening event to the Million Dollar Competition. Known for its dramatic, striking presentation, the slide or “sliding stop” is a signature reining manuever where the horse accelerates to a gallop and then, on a loose rein, suddenly plants its hind feet in the footing and allows them to slide for several feet while continuing to move forward with its front feet. Scores for the competition will be based on the length of each horse’s continuous slide.

Also new to this year’s edition is the Jump for a Million, in partnership with North America Diving Dogs. This fun auxiliary event, occurring on August 14th at 2PM in the Priefert 2 Arena onsite, will feature sixteen dogs, one representing each of the 2025 Million Dollar Riders, competing in the fast-growing sport of dock diving, with one ultimately being crowned the Champion.

“What began as the simple dream of introducing a new audience to reining has evolved into the premier event in all of western equine sports,” shares Sheridan. “Through THE LAST COWBOY, millions have been introduced to reining — and now the cowhorse and cutting. The Run For A Million has become the crossroads of all these events in an atmosphere unparalleled in the industry.

This year, a new addition to the week of celebrated competition— a slide contest open to all. No judges. No rules. Run as fast as you can and slide as far as you can. The top speed of the horse added to the longest continuous slide track is the score. With $50,000 added money by event sponsor ThorSport, it is yet another opportunity to revel in the spectacle that is THE RUN FOR A MILLION.”

In addition to the flagship Million Dollar Competition, this year’s event will feature the return of the Cutting Horse Challenge and the Cow Horse Challenge on August 14th and 15th, respectively.

The event and the extensive training leading up to it will once again be chronicled in a forthcoming season of Paramount’s hit TV series THE LAST COWBOY.

General Admission and Reserved Seat tickets for August 14th’s Cutting Horse Challenge and August 15th’s Cow Horse Challenge are on sale now via Ticketmaster, with premier experience packages for the event available on TRFAM’s website, along with additional information.
