Karlee Peterson

DATE POSTED:December 18, 2024

Immersed in the Western lifestyle since childhood, Karlee Peterson now dedicates her knowledge and experience to The Cowboy Channel as the executive producer. Raised in a family that bought, trained and sold horses, Peterson learned the importance of first impressions, problem solving and ambition early on. Her upbringing, centered around horse sales and rodeo, instilled a strong work ethic and a deep understanding of the industry. After earning a rodeo scholarship to the University of Wyoming, she balanced competing with internships, eventually sharpening her broadcasting and live event production skills, particularly gaining experience with ESPN2, WCRA and RFD-TV’s The American. In 2019, just before graduating, she joined The Cowboy Channel to help launch its programming. Since then, she’s been an integral part of the growth of rodeo and the Western industry, earning numerous awards for her work.

“The special thing about being a cowgirl is there are a million ways to be one. Some cowgirls are in their hats and boots, moving cows, doctoring animals or training horses. On the same day, another cowgirl is in her dress clothes giving a speech about the Western industry, and yet another may be in a classroom teaching about the land and animals of our industry. Cowgirls are everywhere you look. They are the women in the room who do not need the most attention yet hold the most respect. Cowgirls are loyal individuals. Their love for animals likely outweighs their love for people; however, their ability to connect with people is one of the most unique and beautiful things most cannot do. Cowgirls are the backbone of the moral Cowboy Code of the Western industry, holding themselves and their surrounding crowd to the highest standard. I grew up watching my mom be the best cowgirl I know. I always joked that she got more done between 5:00 and 7:00 a.m. than most do in 24 hours. The more I work in life, connect with people and grow in my career, the more important thing I continue to learn is how important it is to be a cowgirl.”
