Hottish Metal Retires after Super Stakes Non Pro Classic Championship

DATE POSTED:April 8, 2024

Ali Good and Hottish Metal didn’t walk into the National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA) Super Stakes Non Pro Classic finals with the goal of winning, although she knew they could.

Their most recent goal has been to make Hottish Metal the highest earning son of the late $16 Million Sire Hottish. Dual Reyish has held that title for the seven years since Hottish’s first foal crop. Now, after marking a 225 score in the finals and taking home a check for $20,417, Hottish Metal‘s total lifetime earnings came to $472,809. That is almost $20,000 over Dual Reyish‘s show record.

“We weren’t going to push him to do something that he wasn’t capable or healthy enough for,” Good said. “And we weren’t going to keep showing him until she’s seven or eight years old to get that, it just worked out well enough that we were able to get it early on. In the show pen he’s done about everything we could ask him to do.”

Hottish Metal (Hottish x Snow Me The Rey x Metallic Cat) does have a long list of accomplishments to boast. In 2023 he entered the NCHA Hall Of Fame and on the way to that milestone earned championships including the Cotton Stakes Open Champion, Breeder’s Invitational Open Champion, Ike Derby Open Champion and Idaho Futurity Open Champion.

He is owned by Ali’s father Jim Good, and although Adan Banuelos rode him to many of his championships, Ali has always been a big part of his story.

“I’ve been the only one to ride him since he was 2 years-old, as far as getting him ready for whoever to work. I’ve done that my whole life with every one of my horses, I’ve never had anyone really ever get my horses ready,” Good said.

That is partially out of necessity, as Good often travels to shows without barn help. She does have to put her trust in two people to watch cows for her at each show. Last week those people were Cullen Chartier and Cody Headlund. She also wanted to thank Clay Johnson and Austin Shepard for turning back at the Super Stakes.

“He’s a sweetheart,” Good said of her horse. “He will always be one of my favorite horses to be around and to do anything with but now he has to go and continue to do his other jobs.”

Hottish Metal is standing at Brazos Valley Stallion Station LP for this breeding season, where he was even collected throughout the Super Stakes show. The Goods hope that his offspring will carry on his legacy and share his finest attributes, in and out of the show pen.
