Cotton Stakes Futurity Championship Captured by James Payne and Rollz Scooter

On Thursday, September 5, James Payne rode Rollz Scooter into the young horse’s first finals round, and walked out as Cotton Stakes Open Futurity champions. The early cutting futurities are a great place to show offspring of Freshman and Junior Sires to promote the stallions, and to show horses who maybe aren’t quite ready for the big Futurity.

Nevertheless, the EquiStat Elite $6 Million Rider and the 3-year-old horse by Junior Sire Rollz Royce marked a 220 and took home a paycheck for $11,361. Rollz Scooter is out of Scooters Stylish Oak (by Docs Stylish Oak).

Rollz Royce wasn’t the only 2023 Freshman Sire to have a strong showing at this year’s Cotton Stakes Open Futurity. His classmates CR Gotcha Covered and Dual Reyish also had top finishers in Reserve Champion Gotcha Some Fun (CR Gotcha Covered x Summer Time Fun x Metallic Cat) and fifth place finisher Gini (Dual Reyish x Gini One Time x One Time Pepto). 2024 freshman sire Badboonarising also has his first offspring hitting the show pen this fall, and Show Biz Boon (Badboonarising x Awezome Jess x Show Biz Pep) made his sire proud by finishing in third at the Cotton Stakes.
